Creating a Kids Prayer Corner in Your Prayer Room
“My kids never want to pray.” A friend once shared this with me, worried about the spiritual state of her children. You might have heard something similar from your own kids or felt that same concern yourself. The good news is that, more often than not, this is not a heart issue. It is simply an intimidation issue.
Many children feel unsure of what prayer is supposed to look like. They may worry about saying the right words, feel pressure to do it correctly, or feel bored by sitting still, closing their eyes, and speaking out loud. Prayer can feel confusing or overwhelming. The good news is that prayer does not have to look like that. When kids are invited to pray in hands on, creative ways, prayer becomes something they can understand and genuinely enjoy. If you have a prayer room, adding a space specifically for kids can be a meaningful gift to both children and their parents.
Why a Kids Prayer Corner Matters
A kids prayer corner is an intentional space within a prayer room designed to help children encounter God in ways that feel natural and accessible. Soft lighting, quiet worship music, and cozy textures help signal that this is a sacred space. Parents can pray alongside their children, gently guiding them, or allow kids to pray on their own while they spend time in prayer nearby. This communicates that prayer is something children are invited into, not something they are sent away to do.
We have seen how powerful this kind of space can be. One night, my four year old had been struggling with bad dreams. We prayed together that God would give him good dreams, and the next morning he said, “Mom! I had a dream that I was in the prayer room. And it was so nice.” To him, the prayer room had become a place of God’s peace and presence.
Another time, my son built a city with blocks in the prayer room and told me he was building heaven. We talked about what heaven might be like and where his house would be, and then prayed together and thanked God for preparing homes for us in heaven. A few days later, my grandmother passed away, and it felt like a gentle reminder from God that He was preparing a place and also preparing our hearts.
We have also watched how this space draws whole families into prayer. One dad came to the prayer room alone and spent about an hour praying. He then left and returned excitedly with his kids, spending another full hour praying together. Another young family came with two small children, and the mom shared that her daughter did not like to pray. Within minutes, that same child was painting a beautiful rainbow and thanking Jesus for His creation. Prayer became accessible the moment it became hands on.
How to Set Up a Kids Prayer Corner
You do not need a large space or a big budget. What matters most is intention and making kids feel like there is a space just for them. Choose a corner that feels set apart and make it feel peaceful, welcoming, and different from the rest of the room.

One of the biggest barriers for parents is not knowing what to do once they are in the space. To help with this, we created a free printable prayer guide and editable Canva template designed specifically for kids prayer corners. The guide includes simple prayer ideas that pair with common toys and activities.
Simply print the guide, laminate it, and hang it in your prayer room. Place a matching number on each toy. Kids can walk around the space, choose a number, grab the matching item, and use it as a prompt to pray. The toy becomes the invitation, and prayer flows naturally through play rather than pressure.
